April 6, 2005 The HyperV Technologies Plasma Jet for the Maryland Centifugal eXperiment (MCX) Test Fired
The plasma jet designed for the Maryland Centifugal eXperiment (MCX) experiment was test fired for the first time. The plasma jet is designed to shoot a 100 µ gm blob of plasma at speed exceeding 100 km/sec into the Maryland experiment. This experiment will test the feasibiltiy of using a plasma jet to inject momentum into a rotating plasma. It is also an opportunity to test a novel new plasma jet concept with shaped electrodes that help slow and prevent the blow-by instability enabling the device to accelerate plasmas to much higher velocities than previously attained.
